World Environment Day

On behalf of our group - Andrew.Stewart Ltd, CS-VUE and CarbonGroup Ltd, we would like to remind you that June 5th is World Environment Day.

Of course we believe that every day should be World Environment Day but we know that choosing one day to commemorate this every year is a chance for the “choir to sing a little louder”.

What’s it all about?

World Environment Day was developed by the United Nations to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and action. This years theme is YOUR PLANET NEEDS YOU! Unite to combat Climate change.

Why does your planet need you?

Because, to be frank, the crisis of our time isn’t coming, it’s here. In spite of alarming scientific and experiential evidence for accelerating climate change we (the global ‘we’) operate as if nothing is happening. The ecological footprint of the average NZ’er is approximately 7 times greater than a person in the third world. If humankind chooses to continue to consume resources at the current rate, we would need NINE planets just like this one, and though our scientists have hunted the galaxy far and wide they haven’t come across one with quite the same cozy life-supporting properties as this one called Earth. Earlier this year, in March, 51% of NZ’ers partook in Earth hour showing their commitment to the future of the planet. So let’s harness our personal renewable energy and begin to change.

Where do I start?

A good start is to decide to Use Less, Act More, and make a commitment on this day. Whether you decide to adopt a dolphin, take your bike one day a week, plant a tree or just say no to the small red light on your TV – your planet needs you, and collectively our small actions make a big difference. Green your Routine, encourage and inspire your employees, boss, family and friends so that everyone of them goes away and shares your inspiration.
