Environmental Impact Assessment

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS (OR ASSESSMENTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS) ARE COMMONLY REQUIRED FOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS. THESE MAY INVOLVE TECHNICAL SITE INVESTIGATIONS AND ALSO CONSULTATION WITH AFFECTED PARTIES

Our team of environmental scientists and engineers has experience in the production of EIA’s for commercial and residential developments, infrastructure projects, wastewater treatment plants, quarries, landfills and coastal marinas and structures. We undertake site investigations to support the identification and evaluation of potential impacts. These technical investigations may include the monitoring of soil and water quality, assessments of ecological value and evaluation of waste and hazardous substances. A key aspect of our service is the early identification of consultation needs and the development and implementation of consultation plans.

Projects undertaken include the following:

  • Auckland City Council - Orakei Basin Sluice Gates. Undertook EIA and associated consultation for successful acquisition of resource consents for works to replace sluice gates at Orakei Basin and the continued impoundment of approximately 80 hectares of the Coastal Marine Area (Restricted Coastal Activity, requiring Ministerial approval).
  • Waitakere City Council – Project Twin Streams Cycle and Walkway. Assessment of Environmental Effects and extensive consultation to support resource consent application. The project has received numerous awards and has been judged New Zealand’s number one walk and cycle way.
  • Auckland City Council – Owhanake Wastewater Treatment Plant. ASL undertook a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment focussing on water quality and receiving environment data to support a successful consent application for the discharge of increased volumes of treated wastewater to a natural wetland.
  • Auckland City Council - Cox's Creek Streamworks. Comprehensive Assessment of Environmental effects to support successful resource consent application for works in a contaminated urban stream environment. Potential issues concerned mangrove removal, ecological concerns and impacts of contaminated sediments.
