Saturday 20 June: Bastion Point

Thanks to everyone that turned up on Saturday 20 June for the Ko Te Pukaki Ecological Restoration project Planting Day organised by Ngati Whatua at Bastion Point.

There was an excellent turnout and approximately 3,000 plants were in the ground before 12 noon! Janelle and Cushla worked like professional planters, with Janelle showing off her polished hole digging skills whilst Cushla amazed the other volunteers with her excellent finishing technique.

We were lucky with a beautiful clear day, even if it was a bit chilly and beanies were the desirable fashion accessory. The temperature didn’t faze us however, as we were all working so hard we soon warmed up.

We look forward to the next upcoming planting day on Saturday 11 July. See you there.

Saturday 23 May: Bastion Point

Thanks to everyone that turned up on Saturday 23 May.

There were many familiar faces, and luckily, following earlier days of rain, the ground was in perfect condition for planting; the sun was on our backs and we managed to get 2,000 plants into the ground. It was another great day for the kids, with Aaron's son Oscar 'disappearing' with a strong contingent of other noisy boys into more mature planting that we had got into the ground two years ago.

Volunteer of the day goes to Lisa Karl, who was 7 months pregnant. Husband Simon says, “She put in a huge effort and thoroughly deserved the award”. Once again Ngati Whatua showed their appreciation for everyone’s support with an outstanding lunch, which was enjoyed by all.

We look forward to the next upcoming planting day on Saturday 20 June, which coincides with the celebration of Matariki. See you there.
